Papua New Guinea

The Western Province holds vast Natural Resources

The Western Province, located in southwestern Papua New Guinea, is a coastal region that shares a border with Indonesia’s Highland Papua and South Papua provinces. It is the largest province in Papua New Guinea, known for its vast wetlands, rich biodiversity, and significant natural resources. The province is home to diverse indigenous communities, many of whom maintain traditional lifestyles and rely on fishing, hunting, and subsistence farming.

Covering a total area of 425,000 square kilometers, Papua New Guinea is geographically larger than Sweden and Germany but smaller than Spain. Since gaining sovereignty in 1975, the nation has developed a GDP per Capita of $2,636 which ranks PNG among the poorest in the Asia Pacific. However, half of its 9.2 million people lack access to electricity, only 13% reside in urban areas, and 85% are engaged in agriculture. Despite its abundant natural resources, the country faces challenges in infrastructure development, healthcare, and education, particularly in remote regions like Western Province.

Investing in developing PNG's natural resources will help to improve economic conditions, and the daily lives of the people.
